Educational Philosophy
It is my belief as a teacher that the best learning happens when students and teacher learn together. I am always learning new things and encourage you to question, to wonder out loud, and to play with ideas. The learning environment in this class will demand you come prepared by doing the assigned reading and sketchbook assignments so you can participate in class and benefit from class discussions and studio time. Time is critical as students must complete the specified number of pieces to meet the requirements of the College Board portfolio.
Course Objectives
When students have completed the course, they will know and be able to:
Required Texts
1. Sculpture Now, Author: Anna Moszynska Thames and Hudson World of Art, ISBN-13: 978-0500204177
2. Sketchbook provided by the school
Technology Integration
You will be required to use your laptops for an electronic sketchbook in addition to your drawing sketchbook. Here you will conceptualize ideas for assignments; research images, and create images using Photoshop and illustrator as a resource for planning your projects.
Homework
Weekly sketchbook assignments are expected to be finished drawings with chiaroscuro. Some of these assignments may become part of your breadth section. You may also use your sketchbook for notes and ideas in a written form. Students who do not complete the works by their due dates must come in during their own time to complete assignments by the date of the class critique. Students will need to be able to work independently.
Grading
Studio Projects 60%
Sketchbook Assignments 30%
Class Participation/Critiques 10%
