STEAM POINT by SUsan M. Riley: A Guide to Integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics through the Common Core Suggested Reading OUT OF OUR MINDS: Learning to be Creative by Ken Robinson. "It is often said that education and training are the keys to the future. They are, but a key can be turned in two directions. Turn it one way and you lock resources away, even from those they belong to. Turn it the otherway and you release resources and give people back to themselves. To realize our true creative potential—in our organizations, in our schools and in our communities—we need to think differently about ourselves and to act differently towards each other. We must learn to be creative." --Ken Robinson STEM to STEAM research and ResourcesSTEAM Education Blog linksWhat is STEAM?
In this current moment of economic uncertainty, America is once again turning to innovation as the way to ensure a prosperous future. Yet innovation remains tightly coupled with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – the STEM subjects. Art + Design are poised to transform our economy in the 21st century just as Science and Technology did in the last century. We need to add Art + Design to the equation — to transform STEM into STEAM. Every product produced, every graph and visual method of communication is designed. The ability to solve problems in multiple ways and to see novel solutions is taught in the studio. STEM Resources |
